“A VIVID GLIMPSE OF THE LEVELLERS, WHO STRUGGLED FOR A MORE EQUAL SOCIETY THAN WE HAVE YET.”
- CARYL CHURCHILL, PLAYWRIGHT (LIGHT SHINING IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, TOP GIRLS)
A devout Puritan must go to war against the Crown if he is to secure the people of England's religious and political freedom.
Freedom of the People is the true story of Edward Sexby - Puritan, Solider, Agitator - who, at the height of the British Civil Wars, campaigns for the army at the Putney Debates and fights for a fairer society as part of The Leveller movement but when he finds himself imprisoned in the Tower of London Sexby must once again summon the strength to fight for a democratic future.
Freedom of the People is the debut film from director Mark Finbow; a sixty second war epic that offers a vivid glimpse into a turbulent period of history and highlights the forgotten voices of The Levellers who fought for the democratic freedom of a people.
